If The 13th Floor Elevators’ first album is the oldest in my collection (1966) and the start of Psych-rock this first album of The Doors, together with the first album of Jimi Hendrix, both from 1967, is really the kick-off of rock music as we know it. So yeah, The Beatles and The Rolling Stones did pave the way, but, god, don’t these Doors and Hendrix albums sound much much more rock? The start of everything though. Next step will be Punk Rock and Joy Division in particular, another reboot of rock. But The Doors and Hendrix invented it in the first place.
