Ok, so I’ve always been into darkwave (The Cure), shoegaze (Slowdive, Ride, My Bloody Valentine), and post-punk (Moaning, for instance), from the ’80s to now — but wow, this Knocked Loose concert at Outbreak Festival in London is making me question that a bit.
Yes, I like some Ministry songs. But despite that, I’d never really been into death metal or emo before.
So, after the first chills of the evening — following the magnificent Have A Nice Life set — and to please one of us who’s a Knocked Loose fan, we headed straight over. And we didn’t miss a second, from their bold, mysterious entrance to the chaotic ending and massive pogo — wow!
It is dark, and maybe that’s what first drew me in. Or maybe it was the sheer volume — think a plane taking off, hitting you straight in the gut. But more importantly, it was their total command of the instruments: not a single false note, no break, just relentless precision — almost like classical music in its technical mastery.
I’m a Knocked Loose fan now. Third best concert at Outbreak Festival, right after Have A Nice Life and Julie.
