Superb concert from The Myrrors, as anticipated! We were so lucky to have this US band come and play at the beautiful OCCII concert hall in Amsterdam.
The ambiance couldn’t have been better for welcoming them: a lovely park nearby, beer-garden-style bars like you’d find at a Munich fest, and the OCCII itself, a stunning concert venue in old wooden “Russian-style” architecture. The crowd was perfect too (see picture): people of all ages, super chill and gentle.
The opening act delivered an horror-movie-style performance that set the tone just right. Then came the magic of The Myrrors, stepping on stage at a relatively late hour by Dutch standards (it’s common here for great rock bands to start around 8:30 pm, which, as a Frenchman, I still find a bit early). Everything clicked: the timing, the audience, the energy. The band opened with a soft, trad-violin piece that gradually evolved into complete psych-rock chaos, and that’s exactly what defines The Myrrors. Is it jazz? (there’s much improvisation). Is it heavy psych-rock? (the drummer and bassist sound exactly like the best rhythm section of Hendrix or Led Zeppelin, you genuinely feel transported back to a gig in the ’60s or ’70s). Or is it folk music? (with violin lines that echo Celtic, Asian, and countless other traditions). It’s all of that, and it’s The Myrrors.
Mysterious at first, but now familiar. We met them, we bought their records, and we’ll follow them. They’re unique, timeless, and crafting a sound that rises from the past but transcends all trends. Eternal.
