Mind-blowing concert by WIJF at Breda Barst Festival. I even ended up in the pogo, something that has become pretty rare for me, and hardcore-style headbanging like an idiot. Best concert of 2026 so far.
And I almost missed them.
I knew that, among the festival’s three stages, the two big ones had very little for me apart from Bony Macaroni, and that most of what I wanted to hear was happening under this hardcore tent (see picture). I had already seen one concert there, then went to Bony Macaroni’s very Blink-182-influenced set and was about to wait for them afterwards, as we have a playlist interview with them at The Record Club next week.
But luckily, I couldn’t resist the familiar punk-rock sound coming out of the tent, so I eventually went back in.
And what a surprise.
Imagine Janis Joplin, with an even more beautiful voice, playing with early, pre-Nevermind Nirvana, and you get something close to WIJF: a psych-rock / grunge / hardcore mix that works really well on record and even better on stage.
I spoke with them after the concert, and they should be coming to The Record Club for a playlist interview soon.
Really looking forward to seeing them again, both at The Record Club and live.
