L.A. Sagne are another hugely promising Dutch band from Amsterdam. There is so much happening in the Dutch indie rock scene nowadays…
Their punk rock can be punishing and raw, but at times it can also be… pop. That contrast is part of what makes them so distinctive, and somehow very 80s, in the best possible way.
The video below makes the point perfectly: you can be in your 20s, playing punk in the Netherlands today, and still sound as violently good as those first-wave punk bands from the late 70s.
There is melody, there are choruses, but in between comes this incredibly noisy music, with the bass, drums, guitar and voice all remaining completely distinct. No blur, no unnecessary layers. Just direct, confident punk.
We’re looking forward to welcoming L.A. Sagne to The Record Club soon for a playlist listening session and interview. We’re especially curious to hear about their influences and to have them talk us through their first record, released earlier this year, in detail.
