Top 5 Concert 2018

As for the albums 2018 was a great year for concerts, bringing some of the most enjoyable concerts in years, in very different styles (dark electro, indie rock, goth rock etc)…

1. Essaie Pas

Essaie Pas concert at Villette Sonique Festival in Paris was just fantastic, best 2018 concert though: architecture of the end of the world, music from outer space, beautiful sound, amazing set-list, from synth-pop to dark electro and even cold wave (think Joy Division), punk music version 2.0!

2. The Brian Jonestown Massacre

ThebrianjonestownmassacreSuperb from start to finish, punk like The Jesus and Mary Chain, bay area cool like Mazzy Star, classic like Neil Young, arrogant like Oasis and, last but not least, repetitive (in a good way) like Kurt Vile, makes you take off with no drug, we humans have always been highly addicted to repetitive music…

3. Nine Inch Nails

nineinchnailsTotally sold out concert, long queue to enter the concert hall, one person into two wearing a Nine Inch Nails t-shirt before to enter the place, fantastic 3 last EPs largely played on stage, crowd singing louder than Trent Reznor on some songs (“Hurt”, “The hand that feeds”, “Only”), some of the songs being the most powerful dark rock I saw live, ever (look at the “dark” pictures to go with!), third time I see Nine Inch Nails live in 20 years, always different, always impressive…

4. Adult

adultFantastic concert of Adult at Petit Bain (Paris)! Why is dance music usually so happy and dull when it can be as dark/noise/goth and beautiful as classical music opera? “it’s a sad world, thanks for being here and keeping it weird” were very smart and kind words, this is the perfect music to go with the end of this world indeed…

5. The Orielles

theoriellesThe best typical indie rock concert this year, eventually: brand new British band, first album, happy, fun, super professional, highly enjoyable, killer songs, perfect set!
